Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Teacher: Mr Barton-Harvey

LSA: Mrs Caplan

LSA: Mrs Griffin

Autumn Term

Year 6 have been learning about the Mighty Mayans this term. Did you know that the Mayans developed their own complex writing and number systems? They were also expert astronomers and used the skies to make accurate calendars.

We have taken part in a wonderful Samba Blast workshop where we had the opportunity to work as a team to create some wonderful music. We are really looking forward to next term already!

Autumn Term

Year 6 have had a great start to their final year at Thornton. In English, we have been reading Hansel and Gretel and have written our own alternative endings. In Maths, we have been learning about the value of individual digits up to 10,000,000 and multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. Our new geography topic is The Mighty Mayans. We have learned that the Mayans lived in Mesoamerica (modern day central America. Did you know that the Mayans practised human sacrifices!)

Well done Year 6 – you are going to be great role models for the rest of the school.
