Condover Hall Residential Visit - April-May 2018

Monday 30th April

The sun is shining here at Condover Hall! (but it is a little bit chilly!)

4pm:The children have unpacked and settled into their rooms. They  have met their instructors and been on a site tour with them, learning some catchy raps and songs along the way. The children have just excitedly made their way to their first and only activity today.  Two of the six groups have headed off to the dizzy heights of the Aerial trek. Dinner tonight is at 5.25pm  and after that we are off to sing songs and play games around the campfire from 7.15-8.45.

9.30pm: The camp fire was great fun! The instructors taught us more songs and chants and we even had a talent show. Mr Simpson and Mrs Bickerstaff were  surprised and amazed by the range of talents on show: dancing, gymnastics, comedy and mind reading!  When we got back to our accommodation, Mrs Gamble read us a bedtime story and we all settled down for our first night in the dorms. We have an exciting day planned tomorrow. All of the groups will be raft building and kayaking on the lake.

Condover Hall - Day 2

Tuesday 1st May

10.30am The children all slept very well and have awoken refreshed for a new day of adventures. After a hearty cooked breakfast of scrambled egg, bacon and beans, the children have headed off to their morning activities. Half of the children have headed off to the lake to raft build and kayak. The other half have been abseiling and on the Aerial trek. This afternoon the groups will swap over. The weather is being kind to us again today. We have blue skies and sunshine at the moment. Lets hope it stays this way for the rest of the day (fingers crossed)

7.00pm The children have had a lovely afternoon and the weather has been very kind to us. The children really enjoyed the water activities today and were brilliant at working cooperatively to make rafts using barrels logs and ropes. All of the rafts were usable and the children really enjoyed sailing around on them (once they had worked out how to row together and in the same direction!) Our accommodation is now full of soaking wet trainers and socks!

It has been lovely to see the children throw themselves into some daunting and tricky activities today. Some of the children have really pushed themselves and achieved things that they didn't know they were capable of. The children are also really enjoying working with their new Newcroft friends.

Dinner tonight was very well received - burger, chips and donut. Not a particularly healthy dinner but well deserved after a busy and tiring day. The children have now all gone off to do mini Olympics as their evening activity. They are all looking forward to the next chapter of Mrs Gamble's bedtime story later.

Wednesday 2nd May

10.00am The children settled well last night and they have all had another good night's sleep. Breakfast was a little later this morning at 8.10 which meant that we could all have a little lie-in. It rained here quite heavily in the night and has been raining earlier this morning but it is now stopping and the sun is trying to come out. The activities that we have planned for today are archery, laser conquest, archery tag, tunnelling and vortex and the laser maze. Some of these are indoor activities which will mean we can at least  keep dry for part of the day. The children are really looking forward to the silent disco tonight. We are really impressed with the overall behaviour of the children so far. The instructors and staff have commented about their good conduct around the site. More updates later.

Evening The children have really enjoyed their afternoon activities and the sun eventually came out!  Dinner was sausage casserole, mash and Yorkshire puddings or fish cakes followed by chocolate ice cream. The children have gone to watch a film in the cinema this evening. The disco has been rescheduled for tomorrow evening.

Thursday 3rd May

9.30am: The children really enjoyed watching the film 'Sing' last night in the cinema. They came back very sleepy and settled quickly last night and slept well. We have woken up to bright sunshine this morning and the weather forecast for the day is good. The children (and staff) struggled to get out of bed this morning and  many children wore their pyjamas to walk over to breakfast. After another cooked breakfast with waffles the children were wide awake and ready for action. They have another action packed day ahead. The activities today include the gladiator wall, dance mania, tunnelling and vortex, climbing and wet and wacky- a session in the swimming pool. The children have the silent disco tonight in the sports hall.
